Manila, Philippines - The Inquirer’s Musong Castillo fired a net two-over-par 72 yesterday to rule the April edition of the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) golf tournament presented by the PBA’s Meralco Bolts at the Navy Golf Club.
Castillo signed for a routine par on the par-5 ninth, the tournament’s final hole, to complete a back nine rally to tie sports editors Ted Melendres of the Inquirer and Rey Bancod of Tempo and win via countback.
Melendres finished second, while Bancod was third with Ernie Gonzales, ending up fourth with a net 73.
Lito Tacujan of the Philippine Star was fifth with a 76, while Bulletin sports editor Ding Marcelo finished with a 77.
The PSA recently launched a weekly golf circuit for its members, with the final Thursday of each month serving as the big tournament.
More than a handful of players have shown up for each leg, which has seen the circuit play at the Veterans Golf Club in Quezon City and the Intramuros layout in Manila.
Marcelo topped the Veterans leg with Castillo also winning in Intramuros, which will also be the site for May’s first leg.
