MANILA, Philippines - Kenneth Kano, Andie Unson, Gabriel Manotoc and Felicia Medalla topped their respective divisions in the recent second leg of the ICTSI-Jungolf Summer Circuit at the Sherwood Hills Golf Club in Trece Martires, Cavite to earn slots to the Jakarta Junior World championships.
Kano and Unson emerged as champions in Class A while Manotoc and Medalla took the top spots in Class B to comprise the Philippine team to the Jakarta tourney set this coming June 7-10 at the Damai Indah Golf and Country Club.
Dan Cruz, Philip Palanca, Mia Legaspi and Bernice Olivares Ilas were the other division winners in the event backed by Pancake House Group, Terriyaki Boy, Sizzling Pepper, Chevrolet, PAL, Pisanti, Golf Depot, Pacsports, Livescoresph, Duty Free, Coca-Cola, San Miguel Beer, Friends of Jungolf and McDonald’s.
Kano posted a 54-hole total of 234 to beat Aristeo Mata (243) comfortably, Manotoc (236) also was a runaway winner over Song Heung Hyo (253), Cruz (250) survived a last round meltdown to beat Lanz Uy by two while Palanca claimed a four-stroke win with a 239 total.
With a 228, Unson finished two up on ICTSI teammate Sarah Jana Ababa, Medalla nipped Sam Martinez by one with a 223, Legaspi also had a 223 for a close one-shot victory over Sun Choi and Olivares (240) wound up three clear of Mikha Fortuna.
Participants enjoyed the challenge of the host venue which, under new president Harrison Paltongan, is set for major improvements including the total rehabilitation of the golf course not to mention the construction of the main hall, the upgrade of the irrigation system, fencing of the perimeters and completion of the community center for various indoor and outdoor activities.
The next leg of the circuit will be on April 15-17 for the Class E and F eliminations of the Junior World championships at the Riviera Sports Club while the Classes A to D will be played on April 25-28 at Manila Southwoods.
