Speedo STK lures aspiring triathletes

MANILA, Philippines - The future of Philippine triathlon unveils their potentials with the staging of the 2011 SPEEDO Super TriKids Multi-Sports Festival this April 10 at Ayala Alabang in Muntinlupa City.

Organized by the Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP) in cooperation with the Ayala Alabang Village Association (AAVA), a big field of triathletes aged six years old and below to 16 and over are expected to take part in the event that will feature aquathlon and triathlon competitions.

Backed by the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), the race venue will be the La Salle Zobel-Narra Park Grounds with distances to vary depending on the age of the participants.

Now on its fifth year, the STK Multi-Sports Festival is a major ingredient of TRAP’s grassroots development program and the main reason as to why triathlon is a fast growing sport in the country.

It is also the breeding group of teeners who have been topping the more competitive local triathlon events such as the National Age Group Triathlon Series (NAGT).

“The development of young triathletes is our top priority because we believe that to develop good triathletes, we have to start them at their young age,” said TRAP president Tom Carrasco Jr.

Supported by David’s Salon, Gatorade, Fitness First and Asian Centre for Insulation Philippines Inc., focus will be on the 13 to 15 age competition since from this ranks will rise the country’s possible representative to the Youth Olympic Games in 2014 in Nanjing, China.
