MANILA, Philippines - Naga City plays host to the RP Welterweight Championship fight between Dennis Laurente and Dondon Sultan on March 5 at the Metro Naga Coliseum.
The Memorandum of Agreement was recently inked by Naga City Mayor John Bongat with the City councilors and International Promoter Johnny Elorde who is staging the card dubbed “Boxing Kontra Droga.”
“We welcome the Elorde family to Naga and we are honored that this championship fight will be held at the 10,000 capacity coliseum that we have here. This is the start of developing the City of Naga to be boxing capital in southern Luzon.”
Laurente, who landed in the world ratings after six successful outings in America, mostly in the undercard of Manny Pacquiao, will have his hands full when he meets former Philippine champion Dondon Sultan who is training under the stable of Antonio Aldeguer in Cebu.
Both fighters will be in Naga on March 2 to drum up interest for the event. City administrator Jun Mongoso announced that the other fighters who will be in the city on March 3 will also be presented to the public during their workouts and weigh-in at the Naga Coliseum.
