MANILA, Philippines – La Salle shoots for its eighth win today as it sees action for the first time since the UAAP nullified one win from its erstwhile unbeaten slate due to players’ violation of league rules.
The Lady Archers troop to The Arena at 2 p.m. against the University of the East Lady Warriors, ironically the same team that benefited from DLSU’s forfeited win in their previous UAAP Season 73 match last Jan. 8.
The UAAP board on Wednesday overturned DLSU’s 25-17, 25-17, 25-21 beating of UE, changing it to a 25-0, 25-0, 25-0 triumph for the Lady Warriors as an offshoot of the infraction of Lady Archers Carmela Garbin and Clarisse Yeung.
Garbin and Yeung were found to have played in the World Citi Colleges third Viking Cup Invitational Volleyball Tournament without prior permission from the UAAP, prompting the league to suspend the two for the rest of Season 73 as well.
Also banned for the remainder of the tourney were UE’s Alyssa Paril and UP’s Lorraine Chua, who committed the same violation.
With the UAAP ruling, La Salle slipped to 7-1 but remained on the lead, half a game ahead of defending champion University of Santo Tomas (7-2). The Lady Warriors improved to 3-5.
Adamson (5-3) and Far Eastern U (2-6) collide in the other women’s division game at 4 p.m.
In the men’s side, the FEU Tams stake their unbeaten record as they seek their ninth win against Ateneo (3-5) at 9 a.m.
