Chairman's Cup on at John Hay

MANILA, Philippines - Over 200 members and guests make up the banner cast in the 11th Camp John Hay Chairman’s Cup, which reels off beginning today at the John Hay Golf Club in Baguio City.

Up for grabs in the two-day event ending Sunday are the overall championship and the low gross honors with competition also expected to be keen in the other categories, including Class A (0-9), Class B (10-15), Class C (16-19), Class D (20-above).

A Texas Eagle electric golf car, courtesy of the Turf Company, is at stake as hole-in-one prize on No. 4 with more prizes to be disputed in other fun holes in the tournament held in honor of CJH chairman Bob Sobrepeña. 

Tee off time is at 6 a.m. tomorrow while the final day will have a shotgun start at 7 a.m., according to the organizing committee. The awards rites will start at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the CJH Golf Club Verandah.

The tournament is presented by Warbird Security and Investigation Agency and Golforce, Inc. and sponsored by American Eye Center, The Manor at Camp John Hay and Le Chef.

The Stableford scoring system with full January handicap will be used for members (maximum hdcp of 27) while the guests vie for top honors under the Molave scoring format.

Lee Byung Sun, a 10-handicapper, took last year’s overall crown with 38 net points.

 and is expected to be back to defend the title along with net champion Ahn Joon, a scratch player who likewise scored 38 points.

Last year’s winners were Mars Garcia (Class A), Jeong Sek Jun (Class B), Eric Acuña (Class C), Ben Ayoong (Class D), Dina Eden (ladies category) and Thirdy Escaño (guest division).
