MANILA, Philippines – Manila overwhelmed Alabang with solid pitching and came away with a 10-1 rout for its second win yesterday in the Dunkin’ Donuts Baseball Philippines Series VII at the Felino Marcelino Baseball Stadium in Taguig City.
Starter Charlie Labrador along with relievers Roy Baclay, Finals Series VI MVP Jon Jon Robles and Paco Tantuico yielded just one run in six hits then the Sharks pounced on the Tigers’ 12 errors to post the lopsided win in the league presented by Dunkin’ Donuts and organized by Community Sports Inc.
Labrador gave up three hits in three innings while Baclay allowed two hits in three innings. Robles, bouncing back from a bout with dengue, struck out all six batters he faced in two innings while Tantuico gave up a run and a hit in the ninth with the outcome already beyond doubt.
“It was an almost perfect game for us with our game plan and pitching rotation,” said Manila coach Jhoel Palanog. “The pitchers really delivered for this game.”
Meanwhile, the Cebu-Batangas clash was called off due to darkness with the count tied at 4 after 14 innings.
Christian Galedo had an RBI each in the fourth and fifth as the Sharks racked up a 7-0 lead.
Francis Candela and Saxon Omadac scored two runs in the first inning on a throwing error then the Sharks added two more in the fourth sparked by Galedo’s RBI single that scored Junifer Pinero. Galedo then scored on two stolen bases and a passed ball.
Candela added a run on a passed ball in the fifth while Tator scored on an RBI single by Galedo before Pinero scored another run on a fielding error.
The loss was the Tigers’ second straight in the league backed by Gatorade, Rawling’s, Industrial Enterprises Inc., Philippine Transmarine Carriers, Harbour Centre and The Heritage Park with the Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee, Philippine Amateur Baseball Association, Philippine Umpires Association and Sports Radio 918 AM as partners.
