MANILA, Philippines - Joey Pery wrapped up his campaign with a sweep while William Tan took the overall crown in the 2010 Yokohama Philippine Grand Touring (GT) Championships at the Clark International Speedway in Clark yesterday.
Pery, a veteran of Miata Cup racing, showed his superb driving skills under heavy rain to rule both the Sprint and GT Main Races of the event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines.
With the absence of Ford Focus-TRS top bet Mike Tuason and Tan hounded by engine problems, Pery drove trouble free in the sixth lap en route to finishing the 10-lap Sprint race in 23 minutes, 50.778 seconds, 11.893 seconds ahead of runner-up Dennis Uy of SEAOIL-Velocity Motors.
Leo San Juan checked in third while Ford Focus-TRS drivers Sean Redpath and Bobby Horrigan placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the event sponsored by Yokohama Tires, Pagcor Sports, Aeromed, Chequered Flag, and Stoplight TV.
Pery also dominated the GT Main Race and took the checkered flag in 39 minutes and 8.126 seconds.
Despite Pery’s triumph, Tan still went home with the GT Driver of the Year plum with 270 points. Tuason finished second overall with 192 points.
Pery settled for third with 143 while Uy and San Juan followed with 114 and 105 points, respectively.
Tan likewise captured the overall GT200 title with 295 points. Pery and Uy wound up with 161 and 154 points, respectively.
Tuason, on the other hand, copped the GT300 crown with 240 points, 16 points ahead of San Juan who tallied 224. Emayrson Manaog finished third overall with 55 points.
