MANILA, Philippines - The Knights edged the Bombay Bombers, 92-91, at the start of the second round of eliminations of the 2010 FIBL Fil-India Cup last week.
Mukesh Mohnani fired 19 of his season-high 42 points in the fourth quarter as the Knights survived the Bombers’ fightback down the stretch. Mohnani highlighted his superb shooting with nine triples.
Dinesh finished with 21 points while Parmdeep Brar added 21 points and 14 rebounds for the Knights.
It was actually the Knights’ first win after dropping their first three games while dealing the Bombers their second loss against the same number of wins.
Bombers’ rookie RJ Chandumal finished with 38 points.
While they dominated the boards, 75-50, including 24 from Gangwani, the Bombers struggled on the free throw line, making only 26 of 48 tries.
In the second game, the Blue Sharks nipped the Kings, 51-49, behind Kishore Mirpuri’s three-point play at endgame.
Prashant Dargani failed to win it for the Kings as he missed his three-point attempt at the buzzer.
Kishore, the game MVP, finished with eight points and hauled down 21 rebounds, while Manoj Chandumal had 15 and Vladimir Singh made 14 points for the Sharks.
The win gave the Sharks the lead with a 3-1 record while the Kings dropped into a tie with the Bombers at 2-2.
Rookie Jasjit Dhaliwal led the Kings with 14 points while Chulani added 13 and Mirchandani 10.
