MANILA, Philippines - Twenty provincial champions will see action in four regional championships of the Champions League (PCCL) 2010 Philippine Collegiate Championship games.
The regional champions will advance to the zonal qualifying games to be held in Manila and Cebu City where they will vie for six seats in the “Sweet 16” Finals of the Champions League.
Eight seats to the Sweet 16 Finals of the Champions League (PCCL) 2010 Philippine Collegiate Championship games have been secured by the top four teams of the Universities Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
The UAAP qualifiers are led by finalists Ateneo de Manila and Far Eastern University. They will be joined by La Salle and Adamson.
The NCAA qualifiers, on the other hand, are made up of San Beda, San Sebastian, Jose Rizal and Mapua.
Two Sweet 16 seats reserved for CESAFI (Cebu) are being hotly contested by University of Visayas, University of Cebu, University of San Carlos and Southwestern University.
The South Luzon-Bicol regionals will start on Oct. 2 in Sorsogon City with Ateneo de Naga Golden Knights, Naga champion, M.S.Enverga U Wildcats, Quezon champion, Amanda Cope College and Tabak champion seeing action. They will be joined by champions of ongoing competitions in Legaspi and Sorsogon.
The other regional competitions are North-Central Luzon involving champions from Vigan, Baguio, Pangasinan and Pampanga competing; the Visayas Islands (except Cebu) with champion teams from Ioilo, Bacolod, Dumaguete, Bohol, Tacloban and Ormoc participating; and the Mindanao region with champion teams from Cagayan de Oro, Davao City, Gen San City and Zamboanga competing.
After the regional games, the regional champions and other qualified teams will compete in the zonal games where the remaining six seats to the finals are at stake.
Among the teams joining the four regional champions are the National University Bulldogs, UE Warriors, Letran Knights and Arellano U Chiefs and the recently crowned champion of UCAA, the Colegio de Sta Monica Cougars.
