MANILA, Philippines – Ateneo tries to recover lost ground as it collides with a struggling Angeles University Foundation at the resumption of the LBC Men’s Volleyball League at the Arellano gym in Manila today.
The Eagles pulled off a tough four-setter over the St. Benilde Blazers in their opening game but took a four-set beating from a surging Far Eastern U team last week.
But the Loyola-based squad is fancied over AUF in the lone seniors encounter at 10:30 a.m. as the latter dropped its first two assignments in the league sponsored by LBC Hari ng Padala.
Xavier, meanwhile, goes for its second straight win as it faces a debuting National U in the junior division of the league backed by Shakey’s Pizza, Toby’s Sports, Dunkin’ Donuts, Mikasa and Asics.
Mayamot High School shows the way in the juniors side with two wins while Sta. Elena matched Xavier’s one victory and Claret and AUF tied for third with 1-1 slates.
Far Eastern U and Arellano, on the other hand, wrested control in the varsity division with two victories each with the Tams scoring a cliffhanger of a win over AUF, 25-13, 22-25, 21-25, 25-16, 15-10, and the Chiefs sweeping the UE Warriors, 25-19, 25-19, 25-19, last Wednesday.
