MANILA, Philippines - Mixed martial arts (MMA) stars from the collegiate level get the chance to show their wares when the Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC) stages the Colt 45-URCC University Challenge on Sept. 18 at the A. Venue Events Hall in Makati.
Top bets from La Salle, San Beda, College of St. Benilde, University of the East, Adamson and Letran hope to use the event, presented by Colt 45, as their launching pads in their respective pro bids in the future.
Though most of the participants are first-timers, they are still expected to fight it out in pro level, ensuring an action-packed MMA contest.
“They represent the cream of the amateur ranks, so we expect a lot of action. Most of the players want to show their stuff and make a statement,” said URCC founder and president Alvin Aguilar.
Since the sport is fast gaining popularity in the country, Aguilar expects another huge crowd like in their past pro tournaments.
Previous collegiate stars who are now doing well in the pros are Laurence Chan, Warren Franco, Jerson Estoro, and Alvin Ramirez.
The event is backed by Tribal Gear, Alaxan FR, SolarTV, Solar Sports, E-Games, 99.5RT, NU 107, Rogue Magazine, Pinoy Exchange, Synermaxx, Yoshinoya and Chris Sports
Tickets are available at TicketWorld (891-9999).
