Edgar rarin' to get back at Maynard

MANILA, Philippines - After repeating over BJ Penn for his successful lightweight title defense in UFC 118, Frankie Edgar could be aiming at getting back at Gray Maynard.

The 31-year-old Maynard dealt Edgar’s lone setback in the UFC Fight Night 13 two years ago with the Phoenix, Arizona native keeping his unblemished record in 10 fights.

That includes nine victories in the UFC where he launched with a swift first round romp over Rob Emerson in the finale of The Ultimate Fighter 5 three years ago.

Edgar, from Summit, New Jersey, also posted 10 wins but his loss to Maynard still rankled.

Edgar, however, need not wait long as Maynard may have sealed his crack at Edgar’s crown following a unanimous decision victory over Kenny Florian in the under card of UFC 118.

“Edgar has the belt and I’m going to have to pry it out of his hands, which is going to be a tough job to do. Just because I beat him before doesn’t mean its automatic,” said Maynard, noted for his wrestling and striking abilities.

The 28-year-old Edgar’s victory over Penn was actually his second after the former beat the latter in UFC 112 via unanimous decision last April in a title match.

Edgar dominated Penn in their second face-off with a more aggressive style both on their feet and on the ground to reassert his mastery.
