MANILA, Philippines - University of Manila outclassed chief rival AMA Computer University, 93-89, to retain the women’s title in the 10th NAASCU basketball championships recently at the UM gym.
Swelly Moroña scored a game high 35 points, while Mara Santos and Rosanna Russ chipped in 24 and 14 points, respectively, in leading the UM Hawkettes to their fifth straight win and 10th straight since they last won the crown last year.
The AMACU Lady Titans settled for second place with their only loss in five outings in the tournament for players 23 years and under.
On their way to the winner-take-all final, the Hawkettes topped Centro Escolar U, 73-61, Our Lady of Fatima, 66-46, St. Clare, 77-52 and University of Makati, 96-20.
CEU finished third with a 3-2 record, followed by St. Clare (2-3), OLFU (1-4) and UMAK (0-5).
