MANILA, Philippines - Sports science in the country is getting a big boost with a number of seminars covering different aspects of the subject being held by respectable organizations with the common objective of promoting more awareness, understanding, and appreciation for sports science.
“Actually, the Philippines had a head start over some ASEAN countries as we opened our first Philippine Center for Sports Medicine at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in 1990 ahead of Singapore and Malaysia, and up to the mid’90’s, with the active involvement of the Sports Medicine Association of the Philippines ( SMAP), there were regular seminars for local coaches and athletes on the different aspects of sports science, “ said Niño Sinco, a former national archer and one of the locally recognized experts in this field.
LAN Sports and Events Inc., headed by Sinco, has embarked on a series of Sports Science Initiatives, supported by Phiten Philippines, Gatorade, HDI Network Bodivance, Asics, Mueller Tapes, Gel Smart, and endorsed by the Philippine Olympic Committee ( POC ), Gatorade Sports Science Institute ( GSSI ) and PHASES, starting off with back to back two days seminars in Manila and Cebu.
