SSC spikers gun for win No. 2 vs Blazers

MANILA, Philippines - San Sebastian-Excelroof tries to build its momentum early as it shoots for its second straight again against St. Benilde even as Perpetual Help makes its debut today against Adamson in the Shakey’s V-League Season 7 second conference at The Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Stags, installed as the favorites in the absence of the UST Tigresses, opened their title campaign with a 25-15, 25-15, 27-25 victory over the Lyceum Lady Pirates and are raring to make it back-to-back for the solo lead in the season-ending conference sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza.

Thai import Jeng Bualee, who led the Stags straight-set romp with 16 hits the first time out, is expected to stamp her class again against the Blazers, who are reeling from a five-set heartbreak to newcomer the National U Lady Bulldogs last Sunday.

Gametime is at 4 p.m.

Tipped to back Bualee are fellow guest player Suzanne Roces and mainstays Analyn Benito, Ma. Melissa Mirasol, Elaine Cruz and Jennelyn Belen while St. Benilde hopes to draw firepower and defensive help from guest players Zhar Velez and Jen Manzano and regulars Giza Yumang, Ren Agero and Cindy Optana.

The Altas, meanwhile, try to duplicate the Lady Bulldogs’ inspiring start in the country’s premier women’s volley league organized by Sports Vision and backed by Accel, Mikasa and Excelroof as they battle the Lady Falcons in the 2 p.m. opener.

Bannered by guest players Michelle Datuin and Nica Guliman, Perpetual Help goes up against a talent-laden Adamson side reinforced by former MVP Nene Bautista and Michelle Laborte and made up of veterans Pau Soriano, Angela Benting, Jampong Quinlog and Sheila Pineda.

Title contenders FEU and Lyceum, meanwhile, try to bounce back from their opening day setbacks as they clash in the 6 p.m. mainer of another triplebill.

The Tams will pin their hopes of the power-hitting pair of guest players Rachelle Daquis and Michelle Carolino with support to come from Cherry Vivas, Monique Tiangco, Kat Magsumbol, Rose Vargas, Roby Remigio and Gyzelle Sy while Mary Jean Balse, also a former MVP, teams up with Dahlia Cruz for the Lady Pirates, backstopped by Joy Cases, Jamie Pena, Kailyn Peñamante and Nikki Tabafunda.
