CLARK , Philippines – Multi-titled car racing champ Mike Tuason of TRS-Castrol pulled off a stirring win to claim solo lead recently in the second leg of the 2010 Yokohama Philippine Grand Touring (GT) Championships at the Clark International Speedway here.
A decisive maneuver in the final lap sparked Tuason’s sweep of both races in this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by Yokohama Tires, Pagcor Sports, Aeromed, Chequered Flag, and Stoplight TV.
The afternoon rainshower nearly changed the scenario as Dennis Uy of SEAOIL-Velocity Motors grabbed the lead at the start but Tuason quickly wrested the initiative on the next lap and pulled away from the pack.
However, Tuason’s imminent victory almost got spoiled when Marcus Wong, Stuart MacDonald, Bobby Noriega and Bjron Ongtiabok, who are all TRS-Castrol teammates, slowed him down.
The situation gave second-running William Tan the chance to close in on Tuason and later diced for the lead thrice and even gained distance on the penultimate lap.
Tuason stepped on the gas and came side by side with Tan on the final lap until he squeezed through the narrow third turun to regain the front seat and control the momentum to the finish line.
