MANILA, Philippines - Xavier School notched its second win with a 74-73 squeaker over the fancied La Salle Greenhills in the third-Freego Filipino-Chinese Basketball League (FCBL) Cup over the weekend at the Phil. Buddhacare Gym in Quezon City.
Angelo Wongchuking delivered the go-ahead basket for the Stallions with 10 seconds left and the Junior Archers failed to convert their last attempt to remain winless in the annual high school cagefest also supported by Smart Communications.
LSGH reclaimed the lead when Henri Subido hit a three-pointer, 73-72, and appeared to have the game in the bag when Xavier turned the ball over with 30 seconds left.
But Subido missed in the next play and Wongchuking hit the game-winner with an uncontested lay-up to improve their mark to 2-2. Wongchuking, who finished with 11 points, bagged the Freego Player of the Game honor.
