MANILA, Philippines - University of Perpetual Help-Laguna set in motion its campaign in the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League seventh season as it pulled off two victories recently, beating University of the East and Miriam at the Arellano gym.
The UPHL spikers, headed by Jorelle Singh, Ma. Asuncion Mendiola and Jessica Galanza, held off the Lady Warriors, 25-18, 25-13, last Sunday then sustained their form to trounce the Miriam tossers, 25-18, 25-16, last Tuesday to lead Bracket C of the three-division tournament sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza and backed by Toby’s Sports, Dunkin’ Donuts, Mikasa and Asics.
Matching UPHL’s hot start is defending champion Hope Christian School which repulsed St. Scholastica, 25-21, 20-25, 25-17, last Sunday to pace Bracket A.
San Antonio de Padua, behind Kathlene Magsumbol, Gizelle Sy and Rialen Sante, turned back Unida Christian College, 25-18, 25-10, to tie UPIS at 2-0 in Bracket B heading into the last three playdates of the elims.
University of Santo Tomas, drawing big games from Alyssa Valdez, Daphne Santiago and Kim Fajardo, debuted with a 25-18, 25-11 victory over UE last Tuesday in Bracket C.
