Junior World qualifying under way

MANILA, Philippines - It’s the tournament that truly matters and winning is the only thing for the 140 players seeing action in the Junior World Championships qualifying, the second leg of the 2010 ICSTI Jungolf Summer Circuit, starting today at the Manila Southwoods Legends and Riviera executive courses.

While only 34 of these summer campaigners will be given the chance to represent the Philippines in the annual Junior World competitions set July 12-15 in San Diego, California, the best of them will be amply rewarded.

Philippine Airlines is providing free round-trip tickets to Los Angeles to all 12 winners in six different age-groups for boys and girls as the national flag-carrier keeps a commitment that has contributed much to the formation of a formidable team for the Junior World.

With the support of Philippine Airlines, the organizing Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines has brought home more than a dozen titles just for the past decade.

The ICTSI Jungolf Summer Circuit is also supported by Pancake House Group, Teriyaki Boy, Sizzilin Pepper, Dynamic Sports and Leisure Corp., Philippine Airlines, McDonald’s, Smart, Golf Depot and Pioneer Insurance.

The shortened format for the qualifying is also expected to make the battle for slots more competitive. From the usual two-part, 108-hole format the previous years, Jungolf has changed it to a single leg, straight 72-hole event.
