MANILA, Philippines - Junior karters take the spotlight today when the second leg of the Magnolia Purewater Karting Super Series is held at the Batangas Racing Circuit.
Rookie of the Year Estefano Rivera of PCR-Tough Gear Racing-Fern C shoots for his second straight victory in the ROK Novice class of the event. The 12-year-old Rivera finished second behind two-time champion Stefano Marcelo in the qualifying heat before winding up sixth in the ROK overall division.
But out to foil his bid are Gab Dacasin, Cebuano Jette Calderon, Christian Villeneuve of Maranello-San Miguel Corporation-Marcelo Racing, Archim Lagman and Jericho Tolin.
“In a close battle, even a minor lapse turns into a big chance for other karters to pass the leader in this wide track. It’s either you pull away early from the pack or patiently keep track of those close behind you to win the race,” said Rivera, backed by the Tyson Sy Foundation.
The event is sanctioned by the Automobile Association Phils. and sponsored by Magnolia Purewater, San Miguel Corp., Petron Corp., Denso Iridium Power, Motorstar and Aeromed.
Focus will also be on the Mini-ROK class, featuring Carl Pollington of PCR-Tough Gear Racing-Fern C, Marc Meynet, Basti Escalante of Ready2Race and three-time defending champion Christian Gaddi of Jet Racing.
Pollington, last year’s Cadet champion, ruled the kickoff leg with Marc Meynet finishing second.
Escalante, fresh from his win in the Pagcor KF2-KF3 Cup, is also out to improve his place finish in the kickoff leg while Gaddi is raring to bounce back from his fourth place effort.
Also in the hunt are two lady karters Aira Medrano of PCR-Tough Gear Racing- Fern C and Cebuana Kali Carcel.
