MANILA, Philippines - Calvin Canlas, Roman Lepoutre and John Victoria absorbed straight-set setbacks and missed gaining berths in the main draw of the 21st Mitsubishi Lancer International Juniors Tennis Championships which gets going tomorrow at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
Canlas bowed to American Simon Spencer, 6-0, 6-0; Lepoutre fell to Hungary’s Gabor Csonka, 6-1, 6-1; while Victoria also took a 6-1, 6-1 beating from Sylvester Alamdar, also of the US, in the first of two qualifying rounds for boys and girls.
Meanwhile, 11 Filipino bets gain wild card berths in the main draw of the annual tournament featuring some of the leading junior players in the world. They are Jeson Patrombon, Leander Lazaro, Kim Ivor Saraza, Akio Sy and Jacob Lagman in the boys’ side and Anna Clarice Patrimonio, Patricia Joy Orteza, Marian Jade Capadocia, Shannin Mae Olivarez, Marinel Rudas and Tamitha Nguyen in the girls category.
