MANILA, Philippines - Thailand’s Kiradech Aphibarnrat had another steady round and caught up with Rhys Davies in the lead while Filipino Angelo Que slowed down with an even-par 72 to slide down to joint 10th after the third round of the Malaysian Open at the Kuala Lumpur and Country Club in Malaysia yesterday.
Meanwhile, Frankie Miñoza followed up a 67 with a 66 as the veteran Filipino tour campaigner joined Boonchu Ruangkit of Thailand in the lead after two rounds in the Aberdeen Brunei Senior Masters over at the Empire Hotel and Country Club in Brunei.
Miñoza hit six birdies against a bogey in an impeccable round, giving him a one-stroke lead over Chris Williams, two over David Merriman and three over Katsuyoshi Tomori and Jerry Bruner.
Que, however, had a different fortune over in Kuala Lumpur as the former RP Open champion failed to sustain the momentum of a sizzling five-under round Friday.
The youthful Filipino bet dropped two shots early with bogeys on Nos. 2 and 6 before getting into the groove, knocking in birdies on the 14th and 16th holes.
Aphibarnrat remained steady through 54 holes, with his second 68 in three days putting him in a tie with Davies in the lead at 11-under 205.
KJ Choi, Soren Hansen and Thongchai Jaidee all carded a three-under 69, thus, staying tied at third place, a stroke off the pace.
Overnight second placer Alejandro Canizares slid to joint second with Johan Edfors (69-207) at seventh place, followed by Ignacio Garrido (71-208) then a six-man group, led by Que, at joint 10.
