MANILA, Philippines - The country’s finest karters renew their rivalry as the 2010 Magnolia Pure Water Karting Super Series kicks off this weekend at the Carmona Circuit Philippines.
The cast of talented young karters will be led by defending champion Joey Orduna of Ready2Race as he bids for a back-to-back crown in this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by Magnolia Pure Water, San Miguel Corporation, Petron, Denso, Motorstar and Aeromed.
Orduna made history last season as the youngest Karter of the Year and the first karter in history to capture both Karter of the Year and Junior Karter of the Year in a single season.
But this year’s series promises to be more intense and action-packed as the hunt for the premier ROK overall crown gets even more exciting with the comeback of two-time champion Stefano Marcelo of Maranello-SMC-Marcelo Racing and the more serious bids of top contenders Javi Benitez of Jet Racing, Ready2Race top guns Juha Turalba and Roby Benito, Andres Calma of Full Throttle and Milo Rivera of Fern C-PCR-Tough Gear.
Joining the fray are Mike Fox, Cebuano Patrick Gandionco, John and Joseph Castelar of AUTS Racing, and VJ Suba of Fern C-PCR-Tough Gear.
Aside from the ROK Overall, competing karters will be vying for the titles in the ROK Junior, ROK Heavy, ROK Novice, Formula SL Expert, Formula SL Novice, Formula SL Heavy, the Mini-ROK, the SQ exhibition race and the Baby ROK .
where fresh young faces aged 8-10 show off their potentials.
The bigger challenge for these karters is how they adapt their skills in various track conditions as the series tours around the country.
The other legs are set Apr 10-11 at the Batangas Racing Circuit, May 1-2 at the KartZone in Cebu City, Jul 10-11 back at the Carmona Race Track for the Philippine leg of the Asian Karting Open Championship, Aug 21-22 at the Enchanted Kingdom in Sta Rosa, Laguna, Sept 18-19 at the Boomland Kart Track and the championship on Nov 20-21 at the Clark International Speedway.
Favored in the other divisions are Patrick Gandionco in the ROK Heavy class, Estefano Rivera and Von Medrano of Fern C-PCR-Tough Gear in the ROK Novice and Formula SL Heavy, respectively, Indy Villalon in the Formula SL Expert, Kali Carcel in the Formula SL Novice and Christian Gaddi of Jet Racing in the Mini-ROK.
