MANILA, Philippines - Kenyi Ichimiya teamed up with Ding Ramilo as they pooled a 161 to capture the overall championship in the Jose Yulo Memorial Tournament at the north and south courses of the Canlubang Golf and Country Club in Laguna over the weekend.
Ichimiya and Ramilo opened with a 72 then finished with an 89 for that 161 under the PAL (Stableford) scoring system to top the member-guest team event held in honor of the late former Speaker. They won a trophy and two Panasonic Viera 32” LCDs.
Antonio Sarmiento Jr. and partner Jimmy Zapanta wound up second with a 158 after an 80 and a 78 and took home two LG Ultra Slim 29” CTVs with DVD while Raoul Jorge and Ben Jacinto placed third in the centerpiece event with two 78s for a 156. They won a pair of Sanyo 22” LCDs.
Cervin Sarte also shared the spotlight when he scored an ace on 150-yard No. 17 of the south course. He used a Rescue #21 and Super Nike 2 ball in making the ace in a flight that included Shell Phils.’ Rene Sarte, Macario Naval and Par Bains. He won a Xenon portable DVD player with Xenon speakers.
Meanwhile, Joey Huerva and Jobim Carlos pooled a 288 from rounds of 145 and 143 to bag the team low gross honors in the consolation pool while Atoy Sarmiento (143) nipped Mark Vijar (144) to claim the individual low gross title.
Lauro Baldo assembled an 83 from rounds of 45 and 38 to edge Noly Inumerable (41-40-80) for the low net honors in the 32nd staging of the annual event sponsored by Mitsubishi Motors, Phils., Diamond Motors, Phils., Club Car Phils., Pacsports Phils., Dynamic Sports Corp., Bank of Commerce, DPC-Yellow Pages and Golden Nutritious Foods Corp.
The other daily low net winners were Antonio Ong and Nelson Lim (80-north-Saturday), who beat Dante Ong and Mel Dizon (73), and Reichi Naruko and H. Sato (80-north-Sunday), who defeated Ramon Regala and Sonny Pangilinan (77).
