MANILA, Philippines - Kyle Dandan mowed down Davis Cupper PJ Tierro, 7-5, 6-4, late Sunday to barge into the finals of the 2nd LACO Masters Cup at the La Consolacion Sports Complex courts in Las Piñas City.
The victory set up Dandan to a championship match with Johnny Arcilla, who ousted Elbert Anasta, 6-3, 6-4, in the other semifinals.
Earlier, Dandan subdued Soo Han Chung, 7-6 (4), 6-3, in the preliminary round last Saturday and followed this up with a 6-1, 7-6 (4) decision over Kevin Barte before retiring against Arcilla after losing the first set, 1-6, and leading 3-1 in the second.
Arcilla, meanwhile, thumped Barte, 6-1, 6-3, and followed this up with 6-2, 6-4 win over Chung before topping Group A with that win over Dandan.
Tierro topped Group B with wins over Anasta (6-4, 6-2), Rolando Ruel (6-4, 7-6) and Rocky Paglalunan (7-6, 6-0).
Anasta made the crossover semis with wins over Ruel (4-6, 6-1, 6-3) and Paglalunan (3-6, 7-6, ret.).
The champion in the tournament sponsored by Stronghold Insurance Co. Inc., Utility Assurance Corp., Power Zaver Techno Services Corp. and Emerald Multi Resources Manufacturing Corp. will receive P60,000.
The runner-up will take home P30,000 while the other participants will have consolation prizes of at least P6,000.
