Amit crushes Singaporean for pool sweep

ViIENTIANE – Rubilen Amit nipped Singapore’s Chai Zêt Huey Charlene, 7-3, and won the 9-ball women’s singles to sweep the two-event women’s billiards events of the Southeast Asian Games yesterday at the Don Chan Hotel near the banks of the Mekong River.

Amit made up for the loss of compatriot Iris Ranola, 9-6, in the semifinals to the Singaporean, preventing what could have been a gold-silver medal Philippine duel for the event. Amit earlier took the 8-ball crown, making her the winningest member of the 15-member national team made up òf world champions.

The other gold medalist was Ronnie Alcano in the 9-ball. Gandy Valle won the silver in the 8-Ball singles,

while the bronze medalists were Ranola and Dennis Ôrcollo in the 9-Ball .

The Philippines took the overall honors with 3-1-2 gold-silver-bronze medals followed by Vietnam (3-1-2), Singapore (2-1-2), and Thailand (2-6-3). – Gerry Carpio
