Rivera aims for karting triple feat

MANILA, Philippines - Estefano Rivera of PCR-Tough Gear Racing-FERN-C goes for a triple feat when the championship round of the 2009 Magnolia Pure Water Karting Super Series is held tomorrow at the Clark International Speedway.

With points garnered in this leg multiplied by 2.5, the battle for the titles at stake could go down to the last lap in this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by Magnolia Pure Water, San Miguel Corporation, Petron, Denso, Motorstar and Aeromed.

After clinching the Asian Karting Open Yamaha Junior crown, Rivera is setting his sights on claiming both the Rookie Karter of the Year and the Formula SL Novice titles.

He’s currently second in the Formula SL Novice division with 337 points as he goes all out for a sweep of all races to achieve his goals.

But that won’t be easy as he has to deal with Cebuanos Tonyo Carcel and Jette Calderon, and Korean national Daniel Park of Ready2Race.

Carcel leads the title race with 367 points or 30 points ahead of Rivera while Calderon is in close third with 318. Park, on the other hand, is fourth overall with 259 but could still catch up against the top three with a total of 250 points at stake.

It will also be a tight battle between PCR-Tough Gear Racing-FERN-C teammates Aira Medrano and Carl Pollington for the Cadet 60 or the Baby ROK crown.

Medrano holds a total of 415 points or just a point ahead of Pollington who has amassed 414 points. Ready2Race bet Joseph Tumambing is third with 289.

After finishing only second for the Asian Mini-ROK crown, Jet Racing’s Christian Gaddi hopes to capture the local Mini-ROK title.

Gaddi is way ahead with 406 points but four others - Kali Carcel, Jaz Monzones of GP1 Racing, Basti Escalante of Ready2Race and Marino Sato are still in strong contention.

Carcel is second overall with 369 while Monzones is third with 254. Escalante is fourth with 239 while Sato, who beat Gaddi for the Asian Mini-ROK plum, is fifth with 224.

The ROK Novice title will be a three-way battle among Ready2Race karter Matthew Solomon (354 pts), Jennifer Tumambing (264 pts) and Vrei-AR Suba (256 pts.)
