Tanui cruises to 'Fit' run win

MANILA, Philippines - Willy Tanui outclassed the field to rule the 10km category of the Dare to be Fit and Right Run at the SM Mall of Asia yesterday, extending the Kenyans’ domination of the local running events the last few months.

Tanui, relegated to the background by his fellow Kenyans in the previous races, took charge right from the starting line and went on to check in with a 31-minute, 30-second clocking worth P10,000.

Army runner Alley Quisay came in second in 32 minutes and 24 seconds while UST standout Ben Alejandrino finished third in two minutes behind Tanui.

UE physical education teacher Maricel Maquilan topped the women’s side in 38 minutes and 28 seconds, beating Monica Torres, who finished 58 minutes behind.

Ilonggo standout Mervin Guarte took his third title in the 5km in 15 minutes and 17.4 seconds. Army bet Jujet de Asis and Gerald Sabal placed second and third, respectively.

Michael Bacong and Julia Timan reigned in the 3K run of the event sponsored by SM Mall of Asia, SM Hypermart, Asianic, Fitness First, Gardenia, Lenovo, Manila Bulletin, Mitsubitshi, Runners Speak, Solars Sports, Tai Chi, Takbo.ph and Taste Asia.
