MANILA, Philippines - Unseeded Jacob Lagman overpowered No. 3 Ernesto Pantua, 6-1, 6-3, to clinch the boys’ 18-under championship in the 28th Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) Open at PCA indoor clay shellcourt in Plaza Dilao, Paco, Manila over the weekend.
The 14-year-old Lagman, a Cebu native, made full use of his power game that stymied Pantua in the first set then sustained the momentum in the next to complete the straight-set romp.
Other winners were third seed Jurence Mendoza over No. 4 Andre Banate, 6-3, 6-0, in the boys’ 16-under, Vince Salas over Eric Olivarez Jr., 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 (12-U), No. 2 Marinel Rudas over top seed Patricia Orteza, 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 (18-U), Marian Jade Capadocia over Samantha Coyiuto, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, (16-U), Akiko de Guzman over Crizzabelle Paulino, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 (14-U) and Isabela Orteza over Samantha Um, 6-1, 6-2 (12-U) in the event supported by Pera Padala, Alagang Cebuana Plus, Just Jewels, Le Soleil De Boracay, Phiten, Accel, Coca-Cola Bottlers, Dunlop, San Miguel, Universal Paint, Pagcor, Pet One, Little Lawrence, Babolat, Philta, Whirlpool, Pixel Project, Burlington Sports Socks, RFM Corp, Shirt Republik, The Philippine STAR and Solar Sports.
