MANILA, Philippines - Hope Christian High School clobbered archrival Colegio San Agustin, 25-12, 25-10, in the ongoing Season 6 of the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League at the Arellano University Gym last Sunday.
Hope Christian avenged a loss to Colegio San Agustin, which ousted them in last season’s quarterfinals in four hard-fought sets, 25-21, 20-25, 25-22, 25-23.
The Hope team rallied behind Denden Tan’s 14 kills and five blocks and Carol Cerveza’s four kills and two blocks.
“Key to this win was our much- improved tosser, Daniella Cheng, who dished out perfectly timed sets to faciltate the kills of our attackers,” said coach Jerry Yee.
The event is presented by Toby’s Sports, Mikasa, Asics and Mighty Sports.
Miriam College, coming from a heart-breaking loss in last week’s opener, regained confidence to rout Valenzuela National High School, 25-3, 25-13.
Southville International School survived a closely contested 2-setter against St. Joseph School Fairview, 26-24, 27-25. St. James Academy defeated Unida Christian College, 25-22, 28-26. Top scoring for St. James was Jonelle de Jesus, who had 15 points with six kills.
Games will resume next weekend at Arellano with Notre Dame of Greater Manila, Batasan Hills HS, Prenza Nat’l High School and Paco Catholic School playing their debut matches against University of Perpetual Help Laguna, MGC New Life Academy and Colegio de Santa Rosa. Games start at 1 p.m.
