Women bowlers go home empty-handed

LAS VEGAS – Unable to come up with a last-ditch miracle, the Philippines ended its campaign in the World Women’s Tenpin Bowling Championships with another run-of-the-mill outing in the team competitions at the Cashman Center here Saturday.

Requiring nothing but their very best to salvage at least a medal, the Filipina keglers failed to get their acts together as the squad of Liza del Rosario, Liza Clutario, Apple Posadas, Kimberly Lao and Krizziah Taborah wound up 14th overall at the end of the eliminations with a combined score of 6,008.

It also marked the last event for the nationals after Del Rosario, the country’s biggest bet to enter the prestigious masters tourney set Sunday, failed to make the cut of finishing among the top 16 players with the collated scores from the singles, doubles, trios and team contests.

The 31-year-old Del Rosario, ladies’ masters runner-up in the recent RP Open, finished in 44th place with a total card of 4,899, for a 204.1 average, in the all-events won by Colombian darling Clara Juliana Guerrero, who bagged the gold with an output of 5,330, norming a high 222.1 after 24 games.
