Eagles aim for fifth win vs Bulldogs

MANILA, Philippines - Ateneo hopes to stay on top of the heap as it goes for its fifth win in six games against National U today even as Univ. of the Phils. tries to come up with a follow-up to its upset of the Eagles as it battles Far Eastern U in the UAAP seniors basketball tournament at the Araneta Coliseum.

The Eagles, whose three-game run was snapped by the Maroons, 68-58, in a big upset last week, beat the Adamson Falcons, 61-51, last Thursday to regain the solo lead in the eight-team field.

Despite being ranged against the skidding Bulldogs side, who dropped their last four games after an opening day win, the Loyola-based cagers remain wary of their rivals in the 2 p.m. game.

“They have the energy, they run on every opportunity but their weakness probably is that they make a lot of turnovers, they also have a lot of young guys who love to run up and down the floor,” said Ateneo coach Norman Black.

Focus, however, will be on the Maroons, who dished out their best game against the defending champions to post the biggest upset so far in the tournament.
