LOS ANGELES – The Florida Marlins continued their road form flourish with a 6-3 win over the National League-leading Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday.
Florida pinch-hitter Jeremy Hermida drove in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning and another pinch-hitter Chris Coghlan homered in the eighth.
All-Star Josh Johnson pitched seven innings, conceding only three runs, as the Marlins followed a three-game sweep in San Diego. Florida had 14 hits. Cardinals 8, Phillies 1
In Philadelphia, Matt Holliday had four hits and an RBI just hours after being traded to St. Louis, as the Cardinals beat Philadelphia.
Acquired from Oakland for a package of prospects earlier in the day, Holliday had two hits and a stolen base to help St. Louis build a 5-0 lead. He ripped a double in the seventh and got his second infield single in the ninth.
Holliday was in New York for Oakland’s series against the Yankees when he learned of the trade. He rode public transport with his wife and two sons to Philadelphia to avoid traffic, and arrived at the ballpark in time to play left field.
The Phillies lost for just the third time in 18 games. (AP)
