MANILA, Philippines - The Petron Ladies’ beach volleyball series heads north of Luzon for the first time at the Purok Marcela Resort in Lingayen, Pangasinan this Friday.
But organizer Tisha Abundo, a former commissioner of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), expects the same brand of volleyball action in the two-day event backed by Petron.
“The farthest that we’ve been in Luzon were in Subic and Clark in Pampanga and never beyond those two venues,” said Abundo at the weekly PSA Forum at the Shakey’s UN Avenue branch. “We are excited because once again, we are able to reach out to the volleyball fans, who are one of the primary reasons why the Petron circuit is such a big hit.”
Favored to do excel in the coming leg is April Almaden, a 5’8” communications art senior at De La Salle University-Dasmariñas. She made it to the semifinals of the Battle of Champions last year when she joined the spikefest for the first time with former teammate Precious Grace Abano.
Almaden vows to go all the way with new partner Jennifer Manzano in the volleyball extravaganza also backed by Speedo and Mikasa, with support of Pagcor, Coca Cola, Victory Liner, Tanduay Rhum, Orica Phils., Inc. Dragon Fireworks, Inc. Mandarin Chemicals, Trust Trade Inc. and Izumo Builders, Inc.
