MANILA, Philippines – Alabang picked up its second win in three legs in the premier class of the Women’s Golf Association of the Phils. (WGAP) circuit, topping the Villamor leg with a 148 aggregate for a seven-point romp over Tagaytay Highlands at the Villamor Golf Club last Tuesday.
Verni Oledan and Joan Morales, both 16 handicappers, fired 40 and 37 points under the Modified Stableford scoring system to lead the Muntinlupa-based squad’s charge in the two-day tournament, which served as the third leg of the eight-stage circuit organized by WGAP.
Marilyn Reyes and Gerilyn Handog added 36 and 35 points, respectively, for Alabang, which also reigned in two divisions at home while finishing runner-up in the other last April before scoring two second-place finishes in the second leg at Forest Hills last month.
Tagaytay Highlands drew 38 points from Gie Bote and 37 from Totelle Dimson as it placed second with a 141 while Manila Southwoods, with Kat Gonzalez shooting 39 points, finished third with a 140.
Chia Chu Hung, however, kept the individual honors for Villamor 41 points while Alabang’s Vivian Chua and Forest Hills’ Mary Ang pocketed the Class B and C crown with 37 and 45 points, respectively.
Villamor, with Ting Yupangco carding 37 points, also captured the Class B team crown with a 136, beating Tagaytay Highlands, which had a 128. The Highlanders nipped Sta. Elena in the countback for runner-up honors.
Other scorers for Villamor in the 10-to-play, four-to-count tournament were Jing Lozada, Nancy Tsay and Loi Dolendo, who had 34, 34 and 31 points, respectively. Canlubang, led by Maricel Calimlim’s 37 and Winnie Santos’ 35 points, took the Class C team plum with a 138, defeating Aguinaldo, which had a 135 while Tagaytay Highlands edged Forest Hills for third with a 134.
Meanwhile, the fourth leg of the circuit will be held at the Riviera in Silang, Cavite on July 13-14 while Manila Southwoods will host the fifth leg on Aug. 3-4.
