MANILA, Philippines - Triathletes who will be joining the second Animo Sprint Triathlon set on June 14 inside the Ayala Alabang Village in Muntinlupa will be a big help in the continued education of poor kids in Bagac, Bataan.
Last year, the fund-raising event, organized by La Salle Cares and spearheaded by LSGH Class ‘ 81 and the Sunkist Tri Hard triathlon club, raised P150,000 which was turned over to the St. Jaime Hilario Scholarship Fund for the benefit of elementary children of common folk like fishermen and tricycle drivers in Bagac.
“The donation we got last year will go a long way in educating the kids here in Bagac, usually P50,000 will send a child to school for the next 10 years. It is a perpetual scholarship program and once a child finishes school, the scholarship is transferred to another child. In La Sallian education, every child counts,” said Bro. Ricky Laguda, school director of the Jaime Hilario Integrated School run by De La Salle.
The Triathlon Association of the Philippines, headed by Tom Carrasco, is calling on all triathletes, young and old, competitive and recreational, to participate in the event and help the under-privileged.
“It is good that triathlon has already become a medium to help others and TRAP welcomes this opportunity and will support it in whatever way we can,” said Carrasco.
The event is sponsored by Sunkist, Vitwater, Hershey’s, Belo Medical Group and media partners Philippine STAR, Solar sports, JAM 88.3 , WAVE 89.1 , Magic 89.9 , 99.5 RT, and 103.5 Max FM, and hosted by the Ayala Alabang Village Association.
