Tams upend Cards in Filoil Flying V

MANILA, Philippines - Far Eastern U made one big run in the last three minutes as it subdued Mapua, 71-66, to notch its third win in five games in the Filoil-Flying V Pre-Season MVP Cup at the San Juan Arena in San Juan yesterday.

Reil Cervantes scored 13 of his 27 points in the fourth quarter, including nine points in that decisive attack, that shattered the 58-all count in the last 3:49 en route to the victory.

“Reil (Cervantes) stepped up for us, and we are lucky to win,” said FEU coach Glenn Capacio, whose Tams moved up behind unbeaten La Salle (3-0) in Group B.

The Cardinals took their third loss against two wins as they slid to fifth place in Group A paced by Univ. of the East’s 4-0 card.

In the other game, Adamson notched its second win in three starts as it downed St. Benilde, 72-62.

Jerik Canada paced the Falcons with 20 points while Lester Alvarez poured nine of his 13 points in the fourth period as the Falcons battled back after squandering a big lead in a game they dominated majority of the way.

The Blazers snatched the lead for the first time, 56-55, on Carlo Lastimosa’s short jumper in the last 5:14, but the Falcons countered with a 6-0 run to regain the lead. – With report from contributor Celest Flores
