MANILA, Philippines - Xavier School beat Chiang Kai Shek College, 86-56, to complete a sweep of the Chiang San Ching Memorial Cup Division 1 Championship (22-and-under) at the Chiang Kai Shek College gym recently.
Led by 2006 UAAP Rookie of the Year and eventual MVP Woody Co, the Caesar Wongchuking-mentored Xavier squad led from start to finish to complete a nine-game sweep of the tournament.
It was actually Xavier’s second grand slam feat in the tournament after lording it over from 2001 to 2003.
PBL and UAAP veteran Rejan Lee led Xavier with 18 points as he led the Mythical 5 that included Co, Charles Tiu, Robin Tan and Jasper Pua.
The team was supported by the Alumni Associaton of Xavier School and Mighty Sports and managed by Joseph Whang. Former Ateneo star Jean Alabanza was Wongchuking’s assistant.
It was a double celebration for Xavier as it also won the Division 2 championship for the second straight year, defeating Hope Christian High School, 83-74, behind Kevin Lim, Jeron Teng and Jet Manuel.
