MANILA, Philippines - Cebu’s Daisy Condensada and Santos Petroleum of Iloilo bested separate rivals at the start of the Nokia National Basketball Training Center (NBTC)-D-League at the University of San Carlos Gym last Monday in Cebu City.
Daisy, made up of players from Sacred Heart School-Jesuits Eagles, USC-South, University of the Visayas and University of Southern Philippines Foundation, routed Dumaguete Suy, 70-55, in the tournament under the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas with support from Nokia Philippines, TAO Corp., Nike, Molten and Philippine Airlines.
Daryl Nazareno led the team with 11 points while Pipoy Marata had 10 points. Janus Calma had 14 points while Emmanuel Sevilla tallied 11 for Dumaguete Suy.
Santos Petroleum, for its part, trounced the BMEG Experts of Cebu, 77-68.
Janno Francisco scored 11 of his 20 points while Orly Pelopero had 10 in the final period to seal the win for Santos Petroleum.
The top two teams after the single round elims will advance to the finals set tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Nokia under-16 RP team goes up against the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) All-Star Selection in the other game tomorrow.
The winner of the Cebu tourney will join Luzon champion Health Solutions Laguna and Smart-Manila in the national finals set May 7-9 at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
