MANILA, Philippines - The country’s premier marathoners take part in the 10th DZMM Takbo Para sa Kalikasan tomorrow at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila.
Spearheading the men’s 10K race are two-time Milo Marathon national champions Eduardo Buenavista and Cresenciano Sabal. Buenavista and Sabal are the best long distance runners in the country today but being the defending champion here, Buenavista is favored to win over Sabal. Out to challenge the two are Rene Herrera, Jujet de Asis, Bernardo Desamito and Alley Quisay.
In the distaff side, Mercedita Fetalvero is expected to continue her reign as the country’s undisputed Queen of the 10K Race when she defends her title against the up-and-coming Maricel Maquilan and Ailene Tolentino.
Fetalvero has not lost a 10K race on Philippine soil since 1998.
A total of P80,000 in prize money is up for grabs in the 10K, 5K and 3K running events and other special awards.
The beneficiary of the annual foot race is the La Mesa Watershed.
Invited to grace the occasion and to fire the starting gun are Vice President Noli de Castro and Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim. Other radio personalities expected to attend are Ted Failon, Korina Sanchez and Cory Quirino.
