MANILA, Philippines - Rizal Technological University copped its fifth straight overall title in the 21st season of the State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association-National Capital Region (SCUAA-NCR).
The Boni-based squad won 14 of the 20 events for 600 points, 45 more than second running Polytechnic University of the Philippines.
“This overwhelming event can be credited to the perseverance of the athletes, our exceptional coaches, a steadfast sports development program and the unwavering support of the university administration. These factors are significant ingredients to produce such an exemplary feat, ” said RTU president Jose Macaballug.
The Blue batters dethroned defending champion PUP in the best-of-three finals while its lady booters routed the PUP side, 6-0.
In chess, RTU scored 15.5 and 19.0 points for the men’s and women’s division title. Its men’s and women’s swimming team captured 33 gold medals to retain the title. It also won the men’s and women’s table tennis title and made a 15-gold-medal sweep in taekwondo. The RTU lady spikers blasted PUP, 25-14, 25-18, 25-17.
The event, hosted by EARIST, was also participated in by Philippine State College of Aeronautics, Marikina Polytechnic College, Philippine Normal University and Technological University of the Philippines.
