LUCENA CITY – Ramsey Williams dished out a triple-double job as Quezon tripped Ilocos Sur, 87-75, to notch its second straight win in the Quezon Province leg of the 2009 Smart Liga Pilipinas Conference II at the Quezon Convention Center here Thursday.
Williams scored 16 of his team-high 24 points in the final period as the Red Oilers of Gov. Raffy Nantes and coach Oliver Bunyi battled back from a 54-58 deficit with a decisive 13-3 run in the fourth to post the runaway victory.
Williams also pulled down 10 rebounds and made 10 assists to record the first triple-double feat in Liga Pilipinas history.
It was a sorry loss for the Bravehearts of Gov. DV Savellano and coach Gino Manuel, who raced to a 20-8 lead in the opening quarter behind a 16-0 blitz.
In the first game, Zamboanga held off Iloilo Mang Inasal, 76-74, to post its first win in the tournament backed by Smart, ML Kwarta Padala, Accel, Burlington, Air21, Laptop Phoneshop, Molten and Nature’s Spring.
