Burger King, formerly Air21, will continue to rebuild in the next few days in an effort to form a real competitive team and make a big impact right in its first year of participation in the pro league.
Lina Group of Companies president Lito Alvarez bared this to The STAR a few hours after the PBA board of governors approved yesterday Air21’s name change to Burger King.
“Everything was in order. They complied with the requirements and it’s all that we wanted. Burger King is owned by the Lina family, which is why they don’t need to pay a transfer fee. There was no transfer of ownership involved,” said chairman Joaqui Trillo after the league board made the decision without getting into a vote.
“We expected this from the very start and we’re happy that the board finally accepted our change in name. The documents showed proof that the owners of Airfreight 2100 and Burger King are the same holding company, which is Lina Corporate Services,” said Alvarez.
Thus, the Express will sport a new name and will play under new coach with a newly overhauled lineup when they plunge back into action in the coming Fiesta Conference.

“You’ve not seen the last of our trades. There will still be some movements as we’re determined to form a competitive team and aspire for a championship in Burger King’s first tournament,” said Alvarez. – Nelson Beltran
