Nine athletes will be inducted into the Philippine Olympian Association when the POA holds its general assembly on Jan. 29 at the Manila Golf Club in Makati.
The incoming POA members are Beijing Olympians Mark Javier of archery, Marestella Torres (athletics), Henry Dagmil ((athletics), Rexel Ryan Fabriga (swimming/diving), Eric Ang (shooting), Joan Christel Simms (swimming), Daniel Coakley (swimming), Ryan Paolo Arabejo (swimming) and Hidelyn Diaz (weightlifting).
POA chair Rafael “Paeng” Hechanova (1952 basketball Olympian) and president Arturo “Art” Macapagal (1972 and 1976 shooting Olympian) said the other assembly activities are the election of the board of directors for the next four years and the recognition of an outstanding athlete and an institution through the POA Arete Award.
Business executive and sports patron Wilfred Alfred Uytengsu Jr., president/CEO of Alaska Milk Corp., has been invited to be guest of honor and inspirational speaker during the assembly starting at 3 p.m.
The assembly is supported by Accel Sports, San Miguel Corp., Coca-Cola Far East Ltd., Solar Entertainment Corp., PCSO, Golden Arches Development Corp., Philippine Sports Commission, Nestle Phils., Unilever Phils., Tao Corp., Pagcor, SM Prime Holdings, Globe Telecommunications, Smart Communications, R-II Builders, Concepcion Industries and Toyota Pasong Tamo.
