Makisig, PBA teams back PSA tourney

Philippine Sportwriters Association (PSA) members, their friends and sponsors tee off today in the first-ever staging of the PSA President’s Cup presented by the Makisig Network at the newly refurbished Villamor lay-out in Pasay City.

Current president Aldrin Cardona of the Tribune banners the PSA field.

Hermie Esguerra, chairman and CEO of the Herma Group of companies which owns Makisig, and whose involvement in sports range from horse racing to the development of caddies for the RP golf team, lauded the holding of the 18-hole event.

“Despite coming from varied (sports) beats, I’m glad that sportswriters share a common passion in golf,” said Esguerra.

The Philippine Basketball Association and its teams Talk ‘N Text, San Miguel, Rain or Shine, Sta. Lucia, Air21, Purefoods, Barangay Ginebra and Alaska have also thrown their support and will be sending players for the Sponsors’ Division.

Among the celebrities playing are Talk ‘N Text head coach Chot Reyes, his deputy Virgil Villavicencio; Alaska drillmaster Tim Cone and former PBA great Jojo Lastimosa. Philippine Olympic Committee spokesperson Joey Romasanta will also see action in the event also supported by Dickies Underwear.

Tee-off time is 7:30 a.m. with the tournament to use the System 36 method of scoring.
