Philippine Olympic Committee president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco Jr. yesterday defended beleaguered archery chief Leonora Brawner, saying the top official who resigned two years ago is eligible to run in the POC elections on Nov. 28.
“Dr. Leonora Brawner is the president of the National Archery Association of the Philippines. She is qualified to run for any elective position in the forthcoming POC elections,” said Cojuangco in a statement.
Cojuangco also stressed that although Brawner indeed resigned two years ago, her resignation wasn’t really accepted by the NAAP.
“Dr. Brawner tendered her resignation to the Board of Trustees of NAAP. Her resignation was not accepted,” he said.
This came after Enrique “Kit” Cojuangco Jr., Cojuangco’s nephew, claimed that Brawner couldn’t vote as NAAP president since she has already resigned her post.
“She already resigned – irrevocably in 2006. And now she’s going to vote. Not only that, she is running as POC director, too,” said Kit Cojuangco, a member of the triumphant RP archery team in the 2007 Southeast Asian Games in Thailand.
The younger Cojuangco said he has the support of two-thirds of the RP archery team that includes Amaya Paz, Joan Chan-Tabanag, Jasmine Figueroa, Cocoy Cubilla, Wayne Larsen and Jennifer Chan.
