Bayron trails Singapore Am leaders by 1 stroke

Rufino Bayron fired four birdies against three bogeys for a one-under 71 as he stood one stroke behind joint leaders Quincy Quek of Singapore and Thailand’s Pawin Ingkhapradit at the start of the rain-hit Singapore Amateur Golf Championship at the Tanah Merah Country Club in Singapore late last night.

The field used preferred lies on the muddy par-72 layout with Bayron rallying at the backside with four birdies on Nos. 10, 12, 16 and 18 inside six feet.

The top ICTSI bet, who won a recent pro tournament at Valley Golf Club, missed the greens on Nos. 4, 5 and 11 and failed to salvage pars for a 38-33 card and a share of third with Singapore’s Koh Dengshan and Mitchell Slorach and Aaron Leech of New Zealand.

That was one shot behind Quek and Ingkhapradit, who both carded two-under par 70s to pace the 61st staging of the event which stakes a berth to the Barclays Singapore Open, a European and Asian Tour leg, to the winner.

Tonton Asistio, fourth in the recent Hong Kong Open, matched par 72, missing a couple of birdie opportunities as he settled for seventh place.
