Knights rain treys on Blazers

Letran frolicked with its outside shooting and blasted St. Benilde, 90-65, yesterday to firm up its hold of the lead in the 84th NCAA men’s basketball tournament at the Astrodome.

Seldom-used Anjoe Latonio fired three of the 12 triples by the Knights who rolled to their seventh win in eight games to remain at the helm.

“I’m happy our three-point shooting clicked,” said Letran coach Louie Alas.

The Knights’ awesome outside shooting opened things up for big men Dino Daa and Rey Guevarra, who imposed their strength inside en route to 20 and 14 points, respectively.

Alas singled out the high-leaping Guevarra for his solid performance.

“I have been waiting for him (Guevarra) to explode, that’s why I told him to keep it up because this is his breakout game,” said Alas.

The win thus put Letran back on the winning track after the Knights absorbed a 67-71 setback at the hands of the San Beda Red Lions that foiled their bid for a sweep of the first round elims.
