Wheelchair caging under way

The ninth Philippine Wheelchair Basketball League (PWBL) gets going today at the Multi-Purpose Arena of the PhilSports complex in Pasig City.

Six teams from the National Capital Region (NCR) and two teams from the provinces of Baguio and Cagayan de Oro are seeing action in the event, organized by the Philippine Sports Association for the Differently Abled, the National Paralympic Committee of the Philippines (PHILSPADA-NPC Phils.).

The event serves as part of the selection of players that will form the Philippine wheelchair basketball team in the upcoming fourth ASEAN ParaGames in Thailand next year.

Former PSC commissioner Michael Barredo, Philspada president, collaborated with the PLDT-SMART Foundation through its executive vice president Anthony Pangilinan for the staging of this year’s wheelchair basketball league. The event is supported by the PBA, PBL and SBP-BAP.

Meanwhile, PHILSPADA-NPC Phils. recently conducted a free seminar coaching and refereeing for futsal, football for the blind, at the PSC AVR and Multi Purpose Arena of Philsports.
